CBC's The National aired a segment on the dangers spyware software poses for personal privacy last night (April 8th). While most spyware is used to track internet usage in order to target users more specifically with spam and popups, some is used to gain access to personal data in order to steal identities and perform other sorts of fraud.
The sheer ubiquity of spyware makes it very difficult to gaurd against all of it, but it is important that all computer users be aware of this problem and download the appropriate anti-spy software.
